Dozens of Bronx residents gathered outside the new Yankee Stadium Saturday in protest of what they called the Yankees' "broken promises."
Protesters say the organization told the community the new stadium would bring new job opportunities to the area. They also claim representatives of the Yankees organization assured the community a new park would be built to replace Macombs Park, which local schools used for athletics. Residents say the Yankees have not fulfilled either of these promises, in addition to others.
"It does us no good to have a wonderful new stadium if all the people that are benefiting from the stadium are from outside the community," Joel Ray Rivera, of Highbridge, says. "They came to us and they met with us and they discussed these things with us and it was part of a process. And now, in the end, a lot of the things that were promised weren't delivered."
