Con Edison and Department of Public Works crews removed a downed tree that trapped residents' vehicles on their dead-end street in New Rochelle.
Powerful winds knocked the large tree onto the hood and roof of a parked car on Weeks Place near Fifth Avenue during a storm that packed winds of more than 60 mph in some areas Wednesday night. The tree also came to rest in the road, leaving some residents frustrated.
"My daughter got to school over an hour late," resident Yashica Campbell said of her Thursday morning. Campbell said she had to park a few blocks away and walk over to her home.
Another resident said the downed tree prevented her from going to work.
Neighbors said the owner of the vehicle was taking the damage in stride. Another driver who usually parked in the spot where the tree fell said she decided not to park in the spot last night.
It took crews about two hours to clear the massive tree, the trunk of which will be removed by crane on Friday.
