Ramapo police are investigating a freak incident Saturday that left a 44-year-old Airmont woman mauled to death by a dog she was taking care of.
Police say the woman was killed after an enraged 100-pound pit bull she was dog-sitting attacked her inside her garage. The victim?s sister, who also lives at the house, tried to stop the attack, but got bitten in the leg by the dog. She called police who fatally shot the pit bull after it charged at officers.
Police say the victim sustained bites to the neck and head. They say they probably will never know what set off the dog. Neighbors say the woman was dedicated to her job as a professional dog-sitter, and it is unfortunate she was killed by the very animals she loved most.
