A 25-year-old burglary suspect is behind bars this morning, thanks to man's best friend.
Yonkers police say the owner of a multimillion-dollar home on Shonnard Terrace called 911 at around 11 p.m. Wednesday after his pit bull began barking and he realized someone was inside the house. Before police even arrived, the dog chased the suspected burglar out of the home and into nearby woods.
With the Yonkers police K-9 unit on the ground and the county police helicopter in the air, police scoured the area. Investigators eventually found the man on the old Croton aqueduct jogging trail just around the corner from the house.
Investigators tell News 12 that the 25-year-old suspect had items on him that belonged to the homeowner. They say the man also broke a stained glass door as he tried to get out of the house.
The suspect's name has not been released yet.
The owner of the home says his pit bull is a rescue dog from the Yonkers animal shelter.
