DFS staff offers storm damage advice to Hudson Valley homeowners awaiting info from FEMA

Staff from the state Department of Financial Services were in the Hudson Valley this week to advise homeowners who suffered damage in Sunday's storms.
The staff says they are aware so far of about a dozen homeowners who experienced damage to their homes.
Assemblyman Chris Eachus represents several damaged neighborhoods and says the state must first declare an emergency and find out how much federal funds might be available to help rebuild.
Many people may have to pay for repairs now and wait to see if the Federal Emergency Management Agency covers what insurance doesn't. It's early in the process, and federal assistance isn't flowing yet.
"Take pictures. Keep receipts of any work that you do. Keep the denials, if you get denials from insurance companies, because that's the sort of thing we hope will qualify for FEMA money," says Eachus.
DFS staff members are going to be at the Stony Point location until 8 p.m. to help with any insurance-related questions. They'll be at Sacred Heart Of Jesus Covenant School in Highland Falls Friday from 12-8 p.m.
