Day care workers at an Orange County facility for developmentally disabled children protested for fair wages Thursday, saying some of their employees make less than fast-food workers.
Inspire has more than 100 employees at its three locations in Orange County, including therapists, teachers and administration. Staff at the publicly funded Goshen day care for developmentally disabled children say they are no longer staying silent in their yearlong talks for fair pay.
They say hourly employees are underpaid and overloaded with work, working without paid vacation or paid snow days and have high insurance premiums.
"We just want them to be fair. When we bargain, we just want them to bargain with us and not feel like it's one-sided. And we just want to make sure everyone knows we are here for the kids,” says Eileen Kelly, of Goshen.
Workers say they will protesting for the rest of the month in the hope that management hears their requests.
News 12 reached out to the facility's director for comment tonight, but calls have not been returned.
