Matthew Quinones, 21, of Danbury, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the May shooting death of 19-year-old Daquon Powell, according to the Westchester District Attorney's Office.
Quinones faces 18 years to life in state prison when he is sentenced next month.
Police say Quinones shot and killed Powell on May 31 on Morris Street in Yonkers. Authorities say Powell was driving a black sedan with an 18-year-old male passenger when the vehicle stopped at 55 Morris St. An armed assailant then ran up to the driver's side window and fired six gunshots through the window, striking Powell six times and the passenger once.
The gunman fled the scene with two accomplices, investigators said. Police believe the three were lying in wait in the driveway for Powell and that the shooting was related to gang violence. They believe Powell was targeted for assassination.
