Cuomo is calling for Democratic presidential candidates to sign the "Make America Safer Pledge.” The campaign is a four-point plan to cut down the threat of gun violence on a national level. It also includes the Red Flag law, keeping people who pose risks from buying guns.

The Make America Safer pledge includes gun safety measures in the SAFE Act passed in New York in 2013.

Some gun owners say they feel laws should not grow tighter. Democratic officials hope to move the campaign to the national stage.
