A Royal Caribbean ship carrying some passengers from Yonkers is due back in New Jersey Wednesday after it was hammered by 30-foot waves and hurricane-force winds.
"Anthem of the Seas" hit hurricane-force winds off the coast of North Carolina Sunday while sailing from New York to Port Canaveral, Florida.
"The boat was on its side, tilted most of the time, back and forth, at least a 70-degree angle. It was really scary," said Vincent McPartlan, a former Yonkers Board of Education official.
McPartlan said passengers were told to stay put in their cabins for 15 hours.
Royal Caribbean said through its Twitter account that guests will get a full refund and 50 percent off a future cruise.
While McPartlan and his group of six were unharmed, he said he won't take the cruise line up on its offer.
