Progress is finally being made on a proposal that could inject money into the Village of Piermont.

The proposal that could bring revenue to the village and its businesses involves a cruise ship.

American Cruise Lines offers an eight-day cruise along the Hudson River to follow the foliage during the month of October - and its currently testing making a stop in Piermont.

The cruise ship anchors in the waterway, which is still considered Piermont waters, and a launch boat ferries travelers from the cruise boat to the pier behind the Pier 701 restaurant on Piermont Avenue.

While it's still in a testing phase, the hope is that the travelers will be able to explore the village and all its shops and eateries or hop on a shuttle bus to Sleepy Hollow to see the foliage there.

The mayor says the town is also thinking about adding a historical walking tour.

The cruise company is expected to end the testing phase on Saturday and will make a final decision about adding the village to its tour after that.

The charming and historic village typically sees much of its business in the summer months.
