Veolia spent much of Wednesday fixing a 24-inch water main break that happened at around 2 a.m. on the utility company's own property on Old Mill Road in West Nyack.
There is no word yet on what caused it to happen, but crews have been using new pipe and other tools to get it fixed.
"Our control center operators saw the fluctuation in pressure,” said a Veolia spokesperson Sophia Salis during a phone interview with News 12. “They were able to quickly respond, and reduce the impact to customers.”
A boil water advisory has been issued for four homes on Strawtown Road.
The order is for cooking and drinking water.
Once the water main is fixed, Veolia will send water samples to the Department of Health and then determine if the advisory is lifted.
News 12 is told that the utility company will notify those customers directly when the boil water advisory no longer in effect.
"We woke up. There was a lot of clanking,” said Michael Nunes, whose home backs up to the Veolia plant. He has a well so his water is not impacted. "We were like, 'What the heck is going on? They're not supposed to be working at this hour of the night.'"
"I just went to the back of the property to inspect what was going on, and it was a flood going downhill into the water company area," said Nunes.
