Inspectors found a credit card skimmer attached to a gas pump at the Mobil station in Garnerville during a routine visit, according to state officials.
The device allows thieves to steal credit card information from people who pay at the pump.
Experts say that the devices come in many shapes and sizes, but consumers should look out for anything that seems out of the ordinary.
They also say people should closely monitor their credit statements and check them against receipts. Police say customers can be safer paying with cash when they feel something seems suspicious.
This comes just days after police uncovered another skimming device in Newburgh. It's unclear whether the two finds are related.
