As the opening of Rye Playland nears, Westchester officials say a new study demonstrates the county benefits economically from the amusement park.
County Executive Andy Spano visited the park Wednesday and cited the study, which he says shows the park - which is owned by the county - generates nearly $28 million a year because of a "multiplier effect."
The study shows that about half the money generated is spent on rides and other amusements at the park. The rest is spent at nearby restaurants, gas stations and other businesses.
Spano says on top of the economic benefits, the park itself will break even. The new pay-one-price policy, along with other park revenues, is expected to cover all expenses, which would eliminate the need for a taxpayer subsidy.
