Counterterrorism expert Sal Lifrieri talked to News 12 Monday following the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Late Sunday, a gunman fired into a crowd of over 22,000 at an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas. At least 59 were killed and hundreds were wounded.

Lifrieri says people need to be aware of where they are and how to get out of large venues like shopping centers, concerts or stadiums.

"Especially now with the holidays coming up, you're going to see malls, you're going to see large shopping areas people are going to be frequenting," he said.

Lifrieri believes the incident could spark change when it comes to checking into hotels. He also says perimeters to get into large events could also be expanded  as a preventative measure.

Authorities say the gunman fired from the Mandalay Bay hotel and had been a guest there for days.
