Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi and Rep. Nita Lowey have announced a plan to combat heroin use in the area.
Puglisi says she has seen the heroin epidemic destroy too many lives, particularly young lives, in northern Westchester.
Statistics show that from 2010 to 2013 there were 290 fatal heroin overdoses in Westchester.
Puglisi teamed up with Lowey to announce a plan to combat heroin use through prevention, education and life-saving drugs.
Lowey says she secured more grant money for the overdose drug Narcan, as well as more federal funds for heroin awareness programs in local schools.
The congresswoman also says that the problem requires the cooperation of police, politicians and the media.
