Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D - Cold Spring) is promising to set aside nearly $1 million to combat opioid and heroin abuse in the Hudson Valley.
The congressman is asking House Speaker Paul Ryan to bring legislation to the floor to fight drug abuse.
Maloney announced that three health centers in the Hudson Valley would receive the promised funds.
As News 12 has reported, between 2005 and 2014, heroin treatment admissions in New York increased by 31 percent. Nationally, the heroin-related overdose death rate has increased 286 percent from 2002 to 2013.
