Lillo Brancato Jr.'s former drug dealer was expected to testify against him Thursday in the former actor's murder trial, but a clerical mix-up put everything on hold.
The prosecution says Joseph Borrelli, their star witness, at one time sold drugs to Brancato. According to Borrelli's attorney, Jonathan Konovitch, his client is being held on federal drug-trafficking charges, but took a plea and promised to testify against Brancato in exchange for a reduced sentence.
Brancato faces a second-degree murder charge in the killing of NYPD Officer Daniel Enchautegui. Brancato's co-defendant, Steven Armento, was convicted of first-degree murder on Oct. 30 and later sentenced to life in prison without parole. Brancato's defense team is trying to argue that their client was not armed and was unaware Armento was carrying a weapon.
Because of the paperwork mix-up, the defense asked for an adjournment at the Bronx County Hall of Justice. The judge granted the request and said many documents still needed to be reviewed by the prosecution and defense teams before Borrelli can take the stand.
The trial is expected to resume Friday.
