City Council passes 2009 budget

The city's budget for 2009 was passed Sunday by the City Council.Two of the winners in the budget are schools and homeowners.The budget provides $129 million in funding for city schools for the year.

The city's budget for 2009 was passed Sunday by the City Council.Two of the winners in the budget are schools and homeowners.The budget provides $129 million in funding for city schools for the year. Homeowners will have the property tax rate cut of 7 percent maintained for a second year and will also see a $400 property tax rebate.About 16,000 summer jobs will be cut by the budget and funding for HIV prevention programs will be decreased by about $5.5 million.The budget is set to go into effect Tuesday.
