A Chester home was severely damaged in Tuesday's storm.
The Collazo family, who has lived there for 20 years, tells News 12 they are counting their blessings after a massive tree fell and crushed the back side of their home on Carpenter Road.
They say both of their sons escaped from the damage unharmed.
Rick Collazo says he and his wife were out grabbing a bite to eat, and as they pulled into the driveway, the massive tree fell on their house and destroyed everything on the way down.
Their two sons, including one with autism, were home at the time, but they were in front of the house and escaped.
The family says the home is likely a total loss.
"They would have been gone, because it crushed the bedroom and it crushed the bathroom, so we were blessed in that sense," says the homeowner.
The damage knocked out power to the home and crews were working to fix that.
Port Jervis resident Kevin Adams is lucky as well.
This tree outside his Orange Street home fell onto the road and away from where he was standing.
"We looked out and we saw it had literally crashed across the street as opposed to onto the house and it was really, really close," says Adams.
His neighbors across the street don't share those feelings - their car took a direct hit.
Thunder and lightning were also felt from Yonkers to Elmsford and led to flooding.
Cars were also trapped under water on Route 303 in Orangeburg, but everyone was safely removed, and no one was injured.
A small percentage of local utility customers lost power - most of those who are still out are expected to get electricity back by Wednesday morning.
