A driver crashed into a house in Eastchester after losing consciousness from choking on food, according to officials.
A security camera at the home on 2 Hilldale Place recorded the car crashing through the Albano family's fence and air-conditioning unit as they ate dinner Thursday.
The driver was eating too. He reportedly choked on a piece of coconut with his 9-year-old son in the car.
"The first boom was basically our fence being blown to pieces, and then we heard the loud boom," says Priscilla Albano. "The whole house rattled."
Eating can be as distracting to drivers as texting and talking, according to Marcel Cekuta, the operations captain at Empress Ambulance.
"It's not right in front of you," Cekuta says. "You're not going to put it on your dashboard while you drive...It's going to be something you have to reach down for."
The Albanos say that the crash was buffered by their air-conditioner and generator outside. The car also hit a gas pipe, but they say they quickly closed the line.
