The Mount Kisco Village Board approved a plan Thursday to turn most of their police work over to the county.

Accoriding to Mayor Michael Cindrich, most of the Mount Kisco officers will resign their positions to become county police officers. He says they will still report to work in the police department and basically have the same jobs.

"What we're trying to do here is not reduce services," said Cindrich. "Actually enhance services and provide a better level of policing in the village."

He believes merging with the well-experienced and well-resourced county police will not only strengthen his force, but it could also save taxpayers $2.4 million over five years.

Executive Rob Astorino was open to joining forces as long as Mount Kisco paid its fair share for the county police service.

Mount Kisco will pay the county about $6.5 million for the first year of their four-year deal.

The merger may take place as soon as June 1.
