A blood drive was held Thursday night at the fire department in Coldenham to help the critically ill baby daughter of a firefighter.
Skyy Michelle, the daughter of firefighter Al Royal, was born with a disconnected esophagus and stomach. It has taken multiple surgeries and blood transfusions to keep her alive. When Royal's fellow firefighters heard about his daughter, they jumped into action and organized Thursday's blood drive, promoting it in town and on Facebook. More than 200 people lined up to donate blood.
Skyy's mother, Kataya Tyndal, says her daughter is at Maria Fereri Children's Hospital in Valhalla, awaiting one more surgery before she can go home.
The fire department says Thursday's blood drive was so successful, they are considering holding another one.
