The Shops at Nanuet have regained power and reopened after a Black Friday blackout frustrated retailers and shoppers on the busiest shopping day of the year.
"Out of all the days, it just had to be today," said Raven Marrero of Paper Source, a stationary store. "It stinks, because we lost money."
Some stores closed during the outage, while others allowed only cash purchases. One shopper said she browsed the shelves at Chico's in the dark.
Shoppers told News 12 that some businesses held items for them and promised to honor sale prices when they returned.
The shopping center was among more than 2,000 customers who lost power, according to officials in both Orange and Rockland counties.
A spokesperson for the power company blamed the failure on a malfunctioning transformer that crews spent about three hours repairing.
