A bench warrant has been issued for a Rockland man who is facing charges stemming from a 2019 crash that killed two teens.
Jason Castro, 47, was not in Rockland County Court Wednesday, and as a result, Judge Kevin Russo issued a bench warrant out for his arrest.
The Nanuet man was arrested for assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct Monday.
Orangetown police tell News 12 Castro had approached an officer in Pearl River sometime after 11 a.m., claiming someone had given him something from a bar the previous night.
The officer asked if he wanted to go to the hospital.
After requesting the ambulance, Castro allegedly became aggressive and assaulted the officer.
Castro was taken to the hospital for a psych evaluation.
Castro is currently in the psych unit at Nyack Hospital, the prosecutor said in court on Wednesday.
He is facing second-degree manslaughter and reckless driving charges.
Authorities say Castro and Aisha Radoncic were racing on Route 304 in October 2019 when Castro's Jetta collided with Radoncic's Porshe.
Radoncic's car veered off the road and landed near the train tracks below, killing her passengers 17-year-old Altin Nezaj, from Pearl River, and 15-year-old Saniha Cekic, from Brooklyn.
Radoncic's case was settled in family court.
Nezaj’s mother was in the courtroom Wednesday, continuing to pursue justice for her son.
