A wireless provider is looking to increase its coverage in Bedford, but residents are pushing back against the plan.
Residents had a chance to make their voices heard Monday night at a Town of Bedford Planning Board meeting as Verizon Wireless attempts to build a cell tower in the area.
The owners of 91 Hickory Lane applied for a special permit to allow Verizon to build a tower on their property.
The company says the tower is needed to fill gaps in coverage, but residents say the tower is dangerous and would bring commercial traffic to a quiet neighborhood.
Neighbors also say they are worried about the tower's appearance and what it would do to property values.
An attorney representing Verizon presented a new plan to the town that includes lowering the tower from 150 to 115 feet and camoflauging it as a tree.
The Planning Board will have to continue to wait to make a decision, as the New York Preservation Office is now involved, reviewing the plans because the tower could impact the view of Bedford.
