A babysitter was arrested this week after she was allegedly seen assaulting a 2-year-old child Monday in the City of Newburgh while the toddler’s parents were at work.
The incident was caught on nanny-cam video, that was given exclusively to News 12 by a source close to the investigation, but is too graphic and upsetting to show.
Chantal Mason is allegedly heard and seen on the video saying, “Be quiet. Lay your a** down and go to sleep,” as she allegedly slaps the crying toddler’s body more than two dozen times and flips the child over beneath a baby blanket to push the child’s body into a couch during the attack.
The child’s cries are heard intensifying during the one-minute assault, which ends as the toddler is seen no longer crying or moving.
Chantal Mason was arrested Monday, charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and sent to Orange County Jail on bail, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Mason was a family friend of the child’s parents for 15 years, according to a source. The child was seen at St. Luke’s Hospital and is OK.
According to online jail records, Mason was released Tuesday following a court appearance.
