Police say a New Rochelle mother left her 8-month-old baby unattended in a bathtub for a couple of minutes, with tragic results.

According to police, the mother left her daughter in a bathtub safety seat while she went into the kitchen Tuesday. Police say when the mother returned, the baby was face-down in the water. Police took the infant to Sound Shore Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police have not charged the mother with any crime. However, police and the Westchester District Attorney?s office are investigating. An autopsy on the baby is scheduled.
