For many in the Italian community, August means it is finally Tempo di Pomodora, also known as Tomato Time.
Every August, for the past 50 years, family and friends have been gathering at the West Harrison home of Vito and Liz Luongo to make and jar fresh tomato sauce.
It is a tradition brought over from Italy that's been passed down through generations, and many Italian families in the Hudson Valley do it each year.
It's done in August because that's when the tomatoes are at their peak.
The jars of tomato sauce that are made are good for a year, so people always have it to make Sunday "gravy."
News 12 will go back to visit the Luongos this fall because autumn is Tempo per Rendere Il Vino, or time to make the wine.
