A Mount Vernon City Hall worker has been fired and another suspended after more than $10,000 was found missing from a lockbox at the city's Youth Bureau.
City Comptroller Maureen Walker conducted an audit of the department. Her former primary election opponent, Mayor Clinton Young, says the missing money is not a systemic problem, but that safeguards were ignored - and changes have been made.
The City of Mount Vernon has also contacted the district attorney's office about the missing money. Those responsible for taking the money could face criminal charges.
