The New York Attorney General's Office released police body camera footage containing an additional 10 seconds showing the incident in which Jarrell Garris was shot by a New Rochelle police detective.
The incident happened back on July 3, Garris died days later on July 10.
Police say officers responded to Lincoln Avenue after a local market reported food theft.
Garris, a theft suspect, appears to avoid officers crossing the road, then Detective Conn, one of three responding officers on scene, attempts to arrest him.
Conn fired one shot, which is heard but not clearly scene in the newly released footage.
The New Rochelle Police Department initially released body camera footage from the three responding officers, but the videos cut before the fatal shot was fired.
The attorney general's office released the never-before-seen video Tuesday morning.
The release of video comes following protests, as recent as Friday, within the community calling for the full release of the police body camera footage.
Family and friends of Garris are calling for Conn to be fired.
Meanwhile, all three responding officers are on paid administrative leave as the AG office investigates the shooting.
A release states that the additional footage was released to the public “in order to increase transparency and strengthen public trust in these matters.”
It goes on to state:
“The release of this footage is not an expression of any opinion as to the guilt or innocence of any party in a criminal matter or any opinion as to how or whether any individual may be charged with a crime.”
Attorney William Wagstaff, who is representing the Garris family, told News 12 the family has seen the entirety of the body cam footage from all three responding officers.
Wagstaff said the family is processing what they witnessed and does not have a comment at this time.
“I am cautiously optimistic that the AG’s Office will perform a full, fair, and transparent investigation and prosecute Det. Coon,” said Wagstaff through text.
News 12 has reached to the New Rochelle Police Department and Det. Conn’s attorney for comment but has not heard back.
