The little-known Republican challenger to Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano received an endorsement from Westchester's most popular GOP member Wednesday.
Underdog Yonkers mayoral hopeful Bill Nuckel received the endorsement of Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino.
Nuckel, a former city councilman and college professor, lambasted Spano for high taxes in the City of Hills.
Spano says he's proud of his work in bringing high school graduation rates up to 80 percent and improving the city's financial performance.
The endorsement follows growing speculation that Spano will challenge Astorino's seat at the head of the county in 2017.
Due to term limits, Spano will serve his second and final term as Yonkers mayor if he wins re-election.
Astorino would be running for his third term as county executive. He has yet to announce whether he plans to attempt another run for governor the following year.
