Arrest made in vandalism of Harrison's Veterans Honor Roll monument

Police says Gabriel Mendoza, 37, has been charged with a felony count of criminal mischief and numerous misdemeanors.

An arrest has been made in the vandalism of the Veterans Honor Roll monument at Ma Riis Park in Harrison.
Police says Gabriel Mendoza, 37, has been charged with a felony count of criminal mischief and numerous misdemeanors.
They say that investigators found surveillance video of the suspect spray-painting the monument around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. They were able to track the suspect via surveillance video to a nearby residential neighborhood and identified him from previous police contacts.
On Monday, as investigators were gathering additional video surveillance, the suspect allegedly returned to Ma Riis Park and damaged the flower beds around the park.
During questioning, police say Mendoza admitted to vandalizing the monument and other locations around Harrison
The monument honors those who served in both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Afghanistan.
Mendoza was issued a court date and released on his own recognizance.
