A driver accused in a deadly hit-and-run has been arrested in Orange County.
Police say Fredy Quizhpe, 24, of Middletown, hit and killed Cartolino Ramirez, 32, of Wallkill, while driving drunk at around 3:30 a.m. yesterday on Railroad Avenue in Middletown.
Police say Quizhpe ran over Ramirez three times, dragging his body. Quizhpe then allegedly fled the scene and led police on a chase down Route 211.
Investigators tell News 12 Quizhpe hit multiple police cars during the pursuit and that he was ultimately stopped after a nail strip was put down.
Quizhpe is charged with vehicular manslaughter, DWI and other charges. Additional charges could be pending as the investigation continues. He pleaded not guilty today and is in Orange County Jail on $500,000 cash bail.
Officials say he was also in jail in August after he was caught driving without a license.
Quizhpe is also accused of striking and injuring a second pedestrian who is expected to be OK.
