Police confirm that the 18-year-old victim was shot on South 8 Avenue, between First and Second Street.
He was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Neighbors say gunshots rang after 10 p.m.
"I was watching TV and heard some noise, some shots, sounded like it was firecrackers,” says Anderson Apple-White, of Mount Vernon. "Then the cops came and people started running down the street.”
A memorial has been set up as family and friends pay their respects to the victim.
