Many pet owners don’t need to worry about contracting coronavirus from their dog or cat.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, it is very unlikely.

In a statement, the association says, "Multiple health organizations have all stated that domestic pets and animals are not at risk for contracting COVID-19."

Animals can spread other diseases however, so experts say it's important to make sure you bathe your pets regularly and wash your hands after petting them.

The AMVA says if you end up catching the virus, you should limit your interactions with your pets as a precaution.
