The American Kennel Club released a list of what Thanksgiving foods are OK to share with your dog - and what to avoid.
It said that Thanksgiving is the time of year that coincides with an uptick in vet visits due to dogs eating unsafe human foods.
The AKC says turkey meat (no skin, no bone), sweet potatoes, pumpkin, apples (no core or seeds), green beans, peas and frozen yogurt are all safe, healthy foods to share with your dog.
Here's a list it compiled of unhealthy foods that dogs should avoid:
Turkey bones, skin, and gravy
Stuffing
Casseroles
Mashed potatoes
Creamed peas
Chocolate, cookies, pies, and sweets (especially anything containing xylitol)
Alcoholic beverages
Raisins and grapes
Onions, scallions, garlic
Ham
Yeast dough
Fatty foods
Foods containing spices
