Despite Canadian wildfire smoke drifting into some parts of New York, the air quality in New York is expected to be good today.
A shift in wind Monday night was expected to bring the potential for unhealthy air quality in western New York on Wednesday.
Gov. Kathy Hochul is urging people in western New York, with underlying health issues, to avoid the outdoors.
However, in the Hudson Valley, there are no National Weather Service alerts and current AQI is very good.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is the EPA's index for reporting air quality and measures air quaility from from 0 to 500. The higher the AQI value, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concern.
For example, an AQI value of 50 or below represents good air quality, 51-100 is moderate, while an AQI value over 300 represents hazardous air quality.
Thursday may get a bit hazy, but the more smoky sky/worse air quality looks to be to the north and west even tomorrow.
