A lot of hands are on deck around Westchester County, bracing for the weather.

Crews with the Mount Vernon Public Works Department were busy Thursday.

"We reallocated all of our man power to make sure that we address all the flood zone areas," says DPW Commissioner Damani Bush.

They're cleaning out the catch basins in flood-prone spots.

All the work isn't only in preparation for the rain in the forecast Thursday, it's also to clear out what heavy rain already left behind Wednesday.

"It shows the system is working but when we get that immense rainfall, it's hard for it to drain out sufficiently in an adequate manner," Bush explains.

Over in Yonkers, they've also been preparing.

"Some of the problem areas that we have, we make sure they're clean so they don't dam up any water and try to clear as many congestion spots as we can," says City of Yonkers Department of Public Works Commissioner Thomas Meier.

If conditions get difficult Thursday, drivers are urged to go slow and be careful.
