An abandoned home in Pomona was spray-painted with disparaging words against the East Ramapo school district.
The roof of the abandoned home along Route 45 and Conklin Road reads, "E. Ramapo school board is racist and persecutes students. History repeats." Police were alerted to the graffiti Monday morning.
The school board, dominated by a group of Hasidic Jews, is accused of short-changing its minority students. The board claims a broken funding formula in Albany is the reason for the program cuts.
Police say that if the graffiti was put on the house by its owner, then it is simply freedom of speech. Otherwise, the possible trespasser could face criminal mischief charges.
