A retired NYPD detective was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a Con Edison employee on the George Washington Bridge, according to police.
Victor Romero, 62, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly fatally shooting 46-year-old Koran Irvine during what police sources described as a possible road rage incident. Police say both men are from Rockland County.
According to the NYPD, officers initially responded to a report of a single-car crash on the outbound upper level of the bridge at around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Instead, police discovered Irvine unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the rear right shoulder.
Paramedics rushed him to Englewood Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
His alleged killer, Romero, of Haverstraw, worked at the NYPD's Narcotics Borough Brooklyn North and retired 25 years ago.
According to sources, Irvine just recently celebrated his 20th anniversary working for Con Edison.
A Con Ed spokesperson released the following statement.
"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him.”
Romero now faces a murder charge.
