A 4-year-old boy is dead after police say he was hit by a car in Poughkeepsie.
Niema Simpson, the mother of Jayden Crawford, says it happened while her son was playing with his brother along Mansion Street in Poughkeepsie.
She says her son was struck by an 85-year-old driver who she believes was speeding. Police have not confirmed this information.
Simpson recently moved to the area from Newburgh because she thought her family would be safer. She was beaten in front of her children while living in Newburgh.
"I thought moving here with the park in the backyard was going to be safe," she says.
Right now, no charges are being filed.
News 12 reached out the mayor's office about the road's safety, but has not heard back.
