The widow of a Yonkers police officer allegedly killed by a teenage driver last year has filed a civil lawsuit against the driver and his father.
Lisa Gualdino's lawsuit was filed in state Supreme Court in Putnam County last July.
Detective Sgt. Frank Gualdino died when a car, driven by a 16-year-old from Yonkers, was speeding on Tuckahoe Road. The driver veered into another lane, crashing into a car driven by Gualdino, who was on-duty, and then into a Bee-Line bus.
The lawsuit says the crash was caused by the negligence, carelessness and recklessness of the driver.
As a result, Mrs. Gualdino was deprived of the services, support and companionship of her husband.
The 16-year-old was originally charged with criminally negligent homicide, but the case was then transferred from the youth part of criminal court to Family Court, where he will be treated as a juvenile delinquent.
His attorney said the crash was tragic and he should never have been charged.
Three civil suits have also been filed in Westchester County by the driver of the Bee-Line bus and two passengers.
