A local resident could be waking up a whole lot richer this morning after last night's Mega Millions drawing.
The state lottery website is saying that an estimated $321 million lottery ticket was sold at the Valero gas station on Route 302 in Circleville. The ticket matched all six numbers -- 9, 15, 24, 39, 41 and the Mega Ball of 1.
The $321 million prize is the eighth-largest jackpot in history, but falls short of the $656 million record, split three ways in 2012. The lump sum payout, before taxes, is a little more than $197 million. If the winner takes it in installments, they will receive the $326 million in 30 annual installments of nearly $11 million.
Another New York ticket matched five numbers, minus the Mega Ball, and won $4 million using the game's optional $1 Megaplier purchase. The Megaplier multiplies the winnings of a ticket.
Mike Nafash, the owner of the Valero gas station, spoke to News 12 and says the NYS Lottery confirmed that his location sold the winning ticket. Nafash was awarded $10,000 for his store selling the winning ticket.
There is no word yet on the jackpot ticket holder's identity, who will have a year to claim the prize. Nafash says he is hoping that the winner is one of his regular customers.
