3-year-old attacked by dog in Spring Valley
Police say a 3-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Friday after a neighbor's dog attacked him in Rockland County.
They say the attack happened near North Cole Avenue Thursday afternoon.
Surveillance video of the incident shows a group of children standing outside when a pit bull suddenly runs across the street and lunges at the boy. The dog then grabs the boy by the neck and drags him around the driveway.
According to police, the attack lasted several seconds before people in the neighborhood rushed in to help and pull the dog off the child.
"These kind of dogs shouldn't be loose," says Jennifer Patino, of Spring Valley. "The people who take care of them should be more careful and have them inside, not outside"
The child, who is Hasidic,  suffered several bite wounds and needed stitches. He was treated at a hospital and is now recovering at home.
Spring Valley police say the dog was seized by authorities hours later.
Some members of the Hasidic community say they are upset with how long it took for police to take the dog. They also claim numerous complaints have been made about the dog and nothing has been done.
Police tell News 12 they have only one official complaint about the dog on record.
They say the animal is up to date with its shots, and they are investigating whether the dog has been involved in other attacks.
The owners of the pit bull could not be reached, and there is no word yet if they are facing any charges.
The pit bull has been taken to an animal shelter until a decision is made on what will happen next.
