3 Harrison cops in hot water over Facebook posts
Three Harrison police officers and a town employee were suspended from their jobs Thursday and could face further sanctions for allegedly posting lewd and racist messages on a popular social networking Web site.
Detectives Rich Light and Frank Massaro and Officer Mike DiLaura have been suspended without pay for 90 days following a unanimous vote by the village board.
"We don't tolerate insubordination as far as the comments concerning me," says Harrison Town Supervisor Joan Walsh. "We do not tolerate racism."
The three police officers are accused of posting sexually explicit photos and comments about the 74-year-old Walsh, as well as racist jokes about President Barack Obama on their Facebook pages.
Harrison Police Chief David Hall, who is investigating the actions of the trio, reminds people of the notion of presumed innocence, but he admits that he is disappointed.
"I don't have all the facts, but if what I've read and what I've seen is accurate, it cannot be tolerated," Hall says.
