Driver dead after crashing into fence, tree in Lacey Township

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

One person is dead after a car veered off the road, crashing through a fence and into a tree in Lacey Township Wednesday morning.

According to Lacey Township Police, officers were called to the area of Lake Barnegat Drive North and Haines Street in the Lanoka Harbor section for reports of a motor vehicle accident.

When police arrived in the residential area, they found that a single vehicle was involved.

"Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle ran off the roadway, crashed through a fence and struck a tree," Lacey Township police told News 12.

No other injuries were reported. The nearby home did not appear to be damaged by the crash.

Police said the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver has not yet been released. The crash remains under investigation and police say they will share more information as it becomes available.
