A fire broke out at a home in Freehold early Tuesday morning, spreading to the side of a neighboring house and prompting a multi-company response.

Flames started around 1:45 a.m. on Jackson Street. When firefighters arrived, residents had already extinguished part of the fire.

The blaze spread to the side of one house, causing heat damage to a second building.

Units from several fire companies responded to the scene. It took firefighters about two hours to fully extinguish the flames.
