Natasha Bolshakova, a fashion, sport and theater designer, created the costumes for this year’s World Junior Champions Hana Maria Aboian and Daniil Veselukhin.

The Connecticut-based figure skating pair won the free dance and the overall title at the ISU Figure Skating Junior World Championships, which took place earlier this month in Estonia.

Bolshakova has been designing costumes for Olympic champions for four decades and is an instructor of design at the Red Fashion School in Norwalk. She says the costumes athletes wear are integral to their performance.

“The costume now is very important because, you know, on television you first see the picture,” Bolshakova said. “I like to start with a young couple and work with them for a long time, starting from the juniors, and then they become Olympic champions.”
