Claims that a Mahopac Central School Board Trustee has ties with ICE brought supporters and opponents to a Thursday night Board of Education meeting.

The district's Board of Education made its stance clear Thursday regarding trustee Christopher Harrigan's alleged involvement with ICE.

"Trustee Harrigan's employment does not disqualify him under New York law from continuing to serve as a duly elected member of the board of education," said Board of Education President Michael Mongon.

The response stemmed from this video circulating via social media.

It was taken by a member of Hudson Valley Patriots for Immigration Reform who says it shows Harrigan wearing an ERO, or enforcement and removal operations vest, appearing to arrest someone.

She spoke out at Thursday's meeting about the lack of minority representation on the board.

"I'm here because I am worried about our children. Our parents. Especially those parents that work for some of the people that are sitting, happen to be here."

However, the district on Thursday reaffirmed that it will not be entertaining Trustee Harrigan's removal.

Many said Harrigan should not have to resign.

"Whatever he does on his time, if its another way of serving his community, I'm all for it," said Mahopac resident, Ray Mcnally.

News 12 contacted ICE to clarify Harrigan's affiliation on Tuesday, but have not heard back.

Christopher Harrigan was contacted for a response but we have no heard from him.
