Families shiver as heating problems continue at Westview apartments in New Rochelle

Residents claim heat is supposed to be included in their rent and say management has not responded to calls or emails. Front Door Management, which runs the privately owned, rent-stabilized building, told News 12 it believes thermostat tampering may be contributing to the issue.

Residents at the Westview Apartments in New Rochelle say a heating crisis is leaving families cold and facing skyrocketing electric bills, just two years after the complex opened in 2024 with major fanfare. The building also houses the Westchester County Family Court.

Steven T. says his family is paying a heavy price.

“My wife is a teacher, I’m a firefighter. We work hard, we pay our taxes. Our son is one. Why should he be sick every day," he says.

An email from the building’s superintendent states the boiler is being repaired, and tenants were given electric heating units in the meantime. But residents say their electric bills have exploded. Steven says he is paying more than $1,000 a month, while another resident, Marita, says her bill is now more than $600 monthly.

Residents claim heat is supposed to be included in their rent and say management has not responded to calls or emails. Front Door Management, which runs the privately owned, rent-stabilized building, told News 12 it believes thermostat tampering may be contributing to the issue.

We also visited the Family Court, where a staff member confirmed heat problems there as well. Tenants say they just want warmth, accountability and answers.
